What is the difference between hiring a mortgage banker versus a mortgage broker?

Actually, when it comes time to seek the guidance of a mortgage professional, there are pros and cons of either option.

A mortgage broker’s job is to find someone to buy a specific loan. All of the funding for the real estate deals they finance will come from the particular company whose loan product they’re representing.

When working with this kind of a professional, you can be sure that everything is done in-house.
A mortgage banker, on the other hand, funds and processes everything themselves. When working with this kind of a professional, you can be sure that everything is done in-house. Mortgage bankers allow you to have more control throughout.

  1. Loandepot has crazy high rates. Mortgage brokers are coming back because of margin compression. You have more control as a broker with lower rates and more products

  2. Seriously? Have you compared rates between a broker and a “mortgage banker”? I guess if you want to steer clients to a higher rate then you are doing your job.

  3. This article is pointless.
All a mortgage applicant cares about is obtaining the lowest rate while getting good service. There's no disputing the facts... Mortgage brokers are thriving & growing because they offer the best loan at the lowest interest rate.

  4. 18 years in the business here and I have worked at Banks, Mortgage "Banks", and Mortgage Brokers. The best borrower experience I have seen is with the Mortgage Broker. Better rates, faster closings, and MORE control over the process. Anyone saying different is not being honest.

    1. You are absolutely correct. I used to work for LoanDepot and consumer direct would call my customers to get them to finance through them and I could not even come close at the retail level with the rates they were offering.
